On Saturday, the Tri-County Community Partnership launched the first Brock Haney & Ethan Beck Memorial Paddle Run. Named after two young men or our community that succumbed to accidental overdose. The young men never net - Brock's family lives in the Town of Mount Hope, and Ethan's family lives in Walker Valley. But after their son died, both families became committed to helping the Partnership fight drug abuse in their son's memories.
By 10 a.m. Saturday, kayaks were lined up all the way up the hill from the Thomas Bull boat launch. So many people turned out that they had to do starts in heats for the 5.2-mile paddle north to Benedict Farm Park in the Town of Montgomery.
Some paddled in a timed competition. Others just enjoyed a perfect late-spring day on the water. When the paddlers reached the finish, they were treated to a picnic party with prizes, food and music.
